Waffle Knit Organic Cotton Baby Blanket

When I was a little girl, I had a blanket just like this one, made from a soft, stretchy waffle knit fabric with a silky satin border...it was my blanky -- and I adored it!

In fact, some of my first memories are of my blanket. As a toddler, I took that blanket with me everywhere I went. I even chewed the ribbon off one of the corners of the blanket to make a soft tickle that I brushed against my face to soothe me to sleep at night.

I still have that blanket, and it was the inspiration for the Waffle Knit Organic Cotton Baby Blanket....and because both the fabric and the satin ribbon are made from undyed organic cotton, you don't have to worry if your baby chews off a corner or two!

Our Waffle Knit Organic Cotton Baby Blanket is 101.6cm by 101.6cm (40 inches by 40 inches)...the perfect size for swaddling a baby (babies like to be swaddled), but small enough that your toddler can easily carry it around without tripping on it (one little guy we know carries his waffle knit blanket everywhere with him -- he calls it his "white danky"!).

And, because both the fabric and the satin ribbon binding are made from 100% cotton, the blanket is completely machine-washable. We recommend washing in warm water (40 degrees Celsius) with a mild, non-bio detergent and a hypoallergenic fabric conditioner. Tumble dry at low temperature, or alternatively, line dry the blanket outside -- the fabric is lightweight, and will dry quickly (and that way it will be fragrant with sunshine!). Each time you wash it, the blanket will get softer and softer.

Since the waffle knit fabric is lightweight, this blanket is best used on its own in the spring or summer; when the weather turns colder, you can layer a few of these blankets to keep your little one cozy!

Soft Jersey Knit Organic Cotton Baby Blanket

Jersey is such a comfortable fabric.... with the comfort of a t-shirt that's been washed so many times, the colour has faded away -- but you still wear it because it feels so good!

That's what we love about our Jersey Knit Organic Cotton Baby Blanket -- handmade (like all our blankets) from the softest, coziest organic cotton jersey knit fabric we could find.

Deliciously soft and comfortable against a baby's skin...and, because the fabric hasn't been treated with chemicals, you can still smell the fragrance of the natural cotton...it always reminds me of when I was really little, walking with my mother among cotton bales stacked high on the docks...

The extra-soft jersey knit is nice and stretchy, so it's perfect for what we call a 'taco wrap', an easy way to make sure your baby is wrapped up nice and tight!

Here's how you do it: spread the blanket out flat, and orient it so that the blanket is in a diamond shape (as opposed to a square); next fold down the top corner about a hand's breadth or so; then place the baby on the blanket so that the folded corner lies just underneath the baby's head. Next, wrap one side of the blanket around the baby and tuck it in underneath the body; next, fold the bottom corner of the blanket up and tuck it under the first fold; to finish, wrap the other side of the blanket around the baby; and voilá - your baby is nice and snug

Like the waffle knit blanket, the jersey knit blanket is 76cm by 76cm (30 inches by 30 inches), and is machine-washable. This blanket is slightly heavier than the waffle knit, but lightweight enough to keep baby comfortable and happy in spring and autumn.

Deluxe Double Flannel Organic Cotton Baby Blanket

This is our most luxurious baby blanket -- soft as a sleeping kitten...(we like puppies too, but let’s face it – kittens are softer!).

If you’ve ever owned a flannel shirt, or a pair of flannel pyjamas, you’ll know that there are two sides to the fabric: a soft, fuzzy, brushed cotton side (usually on the outside of the garment) and a smooth (but not fuzzy) side (usually on the inside of the garment).

Most flannel blankets are made with only a single layer of flannel, so they are only soft and fuzzy on one side. However, our organic cotton flannel baby blanket is made with not just one, but two layers of extra-soft organic cotton flannel, so that both sides are super-soft and oh-so-fuzzy.

This is not a lightweight blanket – this is the kind of blanket you want for your baby when is it cold outside.

This blanket has instant appeal...in fact, we love this blanket so much, we are considering making an adult-sized version (we’ll let you know when we do).

Like our other blankets, this blanket is 76cm by 76cm (30 inches by 30 inches), and is completely machine-washable. To keep it looking its best, we recommend washing this blanket in cool water (30 degrees Celsius) on the delicate cycle (some people recommend adding 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the rinse)

If there are any spots on the blanket (and, knowing babies, we bet there will be a few), pre-treat the area with a stain remover and squish it through with your fingers (but don't rub the fabric). Tumble dry at low temperature or line dry; if you're feeling really ambitious, you could press the blanket with a cool iron (but who wants to be ironing when you could be playing with the baby instead).....
